The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) is a South African governmental organization responsible for managing the province’s protected areas and promoting tourism. It acts as both the management authority for the province’s protected areas and the Destination Marketing Organization. ECPTA’s dual mandate is to conserve biodiversity and facilitate sustainable tourism development.

Eastern Cape Parks are the national parks, marine protected areas, nature reserves and other nature conservation areas in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) is the governmental organisation responsible for maintaining wilderness areas and public nature reserves in the Eastern Cape, based in East London.

The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) contributes to building the Eastern Cape into a province where responsible tourism and conservation underpin sustainable development.

ECPTA’s dual mandate is to develop and manage protected areas and promote and facilitate the development of tourism in the province. ECPTA is therefore the management authority for the provincially declared protected areas and the Destination Marketing Organisation for the Eastern Cape province.

The agency is committed to facilitating development in both mandated areas. It supports emerging tourism products to become marketable, and emerging game farmers to become commercially viable. The Agency works with partners to offer tourists and visitors unforgettable opportunities to explore the Eastern Cape.

Few experiences are quite as absorbing as seeing Africa’s great beasts up close. The Eastern Cape is home to the Big Seven; buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, rhino, great white shark and southern right whale.

The character of the region is embodied in these majestic creatures, taking you back to untamed Africa in its purest form. Spanning both land and ocean, the Big Seven is an African marvel that continues to inspire and intrigue.

The world renowned heritage site is one of the true gems of the Eastern Cape. Home to an abundance of animal and plant life, Baviaanskloof is flanked by two mountain ranges and spans a distance of 200km.

The heritage site is rich in natural beauty, forged over millennia to remain the unspoilt natural marvel it is today. The rugged terrain offers some of the most breath-taking hiking and 4×4 trails surrounding you in nature’s splendour.

With 800 kilometres of pristine coastline to explore, the Eastern Cape effortlessly transitions from land to sea opening up a world of exploration and adventure opportunities. A true feature of the province, along with the abundance of activities, the region is also known as the water sport capital of South Africa boasting a host of international and local water sport events.

Enjoy the breath-taking scenery and immerse yourself in one of the many experiences in and around the Eastern Cape’s magnificent coastline.
